Biology: Better science education first step to better policy

I have taught college biology courses for 40 years. For most of those years, I asked to teach general-education biology courses. These fulfill graduation requirements for our “non-major” students, a phrase I avoid because it emphasizes the difference between my students and the scientific perspective I try to teach.
